Ilene and I went to visit Kate today. We were there for a few hours. Kate and Rich get medals for the days they have logged - though all the staff were very friendly and helpful I found myself impressed by our friends' endurance and patience. I left feeling pooped.
Maybe it was our field trip: a ride in the service elevator and a brief hang out in the pre-op room. Kate went there to have a short vocal chord procedure and Ilene and I tagged along while Rich made his way to the hospital. We chatted up the nurse and asked the anesthesiologist what he had in his goodie bag. He said no, he didn't have any Reeses. The nurse said maybe a Reeses-tini would do the job. Ilene objected to the vodka-peanut butter concept and they rolled Kate away. I'm sure she was thinking, "Not a moment too soon."
Then we waited with Rich in the family waiting room. We chatted and played with our various electronic communicating devices. Ilene and I raided the free snack area. One of us did not raid smartly but that cookie looked so good. Then we went down to see Kate for a little post op visit. You wanna know about the bowels of Brigham and Women's hospital, we are your people.
Took the normal elevator back up to Kate's floor and watched Rich straighten things up and make the room ship shape while we waited for Kate's arrival. He's very good at it.
Kate spoke a little post-procedure but still needs to be cautious and not talk too much. No opera from Miss Billings this week - please try to hide your disappointment.

Susan and I saw Kate Tuesday morning and we thought she looked great. Her hair is coming in nice and thick, her color is very good and her attitude is exemplary, as always. It was such a huge relief to see her with our own eyes, see the Kate we know and love. She wasn't too worried about her voice. Her wound is healing incredibly well. She said they'll take out all the tubes today and maybe send her home tomorrow. Yippee! We want Kate! We want Kate!
